Start with a dataset

From your first visit to your first discovery, begin with these three steps.

Open the map

Visit the map page and acknowledge the citation notice by clicking OK. The map workspace is then ready to explore.

Choose your dataset

Select a dataset from the catalog on the left. Its raster layer appears on the map and its information appears in the panel on the right.

Read the information

Check the description, units, and resolution. Use the map legend to understand the colors and values before interpreting the data.

Find your way around

Back to map

A few simple tools help you see the landscape and understand the data.

Navigate & zoom

Select Navigate to move around the map. Use the + and − controls to adjust the zoom and explore your region.

Choose a basemap

Click Basemap to switch between Light Gray, Streets, Satellite, and Cities. Choose Cities to keep place names visible above the dataset.

Inspect a location

Select Inspect point, then click a location. The information panel shows the selected dataset’s value, units, and coordinates where data is available.

Download your area of interest

Draw a boundary around your study area to download the data you need.

    Place your points

    Select the polygon icon and click around the area you want to download. Use at least 3 points.

    Validate the polygon

    At the last point, double-click to finish and validate your outline.

    Check your selection

    Once the polygon is validated, the Download selected area button becomes available in the dataset information panel.

    Download your data

    Click Download selected area to download the selected raster clipped to your zone as a .tif file.

Need to start over? Select the polygon tool again to draw a new area, or press Escape while drawing to cancel.

Give the research its credit

Please cite the data

The datasets available through Morocco GeoHub are derived from scientific research and associated publications. If you use a dataset in research, reports, presentations, or other work, cite the corresponding scientific publication and acknowledge Morocco GeoHub.

In the dataset information panel, click View related publication to find the associated publication and citation details.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to common questions about the map and its data.

Why does a location show no data?

The location may be outside the selected dataset’s coverage or within a cell with no recorded value. Try another location or choose a different dataset. No data does not mean a value of zero.

Why is Download selected area unavailable?

You need a validated polygon before downloading. Place at least three points and double-click at the last point to finish. The button is also temporarily unavailable while a download is being prepared.

How do I start my polygon again?

Click the polygon tool again to clear the previous outline and start a new selection. While drawing, you can also press Escape to cancel.

What do units and resolution mean?

Units describe the quantity represented by the dataset’s values. Spatial resolution describes the size of the ground area represented by a raster cell. Check the dataset information panel for the units and resolution of your selected layer.

Does switching the basemap change my data?

No. Basemaps provide geographic context. Switching styles keeps your selected dataset, map position, and drawn area.

What should I do if a download fails?

Check your connection and confirm that your selected area overlaps the dataset’s coverage, then try again. If the problem continues, contact us with the dataset name, the selected location, and any error message you see.

How should I cite a dataset?

Click View related publication in the dataset information panel to find the associated scientific publication. Cite that publication and acknowledge Morocco GeoHub in your research, reports, presentations, or other work.
